There’s beer and there’s BEER; a rich, deep, complex blend of malty, sweet, creamy, sour flavors that make the difference between an everyday after work beverage and a celebratory nectar of the gods where the passion of the maker really shows through. Bourbon Barrel aged beers are traditionally rich in color and flavor, sweet and malty with pronounced overtones of the whisky barrels the beer was aged in.
Check out our review of these two beers from a premiere West Coast brewer appropriately named The Bruery in Orange County, California. We spoke with the owner of host location Mellow Fellow (Ryan) about these unique beverages and paired the beer with a special Mexican inspired pork sandwich and root veggies made by Chopped winner Clint Jolly.
Is there truth to the legend that a fresh roasted coffee bean is superior to one that has been sitting on the shelf at the grocery store for god knows how long? I’d say yes, however beauty is in the eye of the be-drinker, so to speak. Andy not only brews beer but has also recently gotten into the coffee roasting business. And, being a former military man, Andy has decided to give a portion of all proceeds to the Veteran’s Guest House, a non-profit organization that houses the families of military men and women visiting from out of town should the soldier need medical treatment. Of course, the housing is done free of charge for the user, and they are supported by the public.
What makes Warrior Roaster coffee different from what you might find elsewhere? Just check out Fluid Bed Roaster on Google. Andy roasts by Fluid Bed (think air pop corn machine on steroids) which is much different than the standard Drum roasters and arguably results in a superior roast!

What a horrible name for a cigar! The CAO Gold Nasty Nutcracker…sounds appealing, huh? Yea, not really- however this stick lived up to it’s ‘Nutty’ name by delivering some nice nutty, creamy overtones. The Nutcracker was a holiday release from CAO back in 2014 and they currently have the ‘Evil Snowman’ and ‘Angry Santa’ as their novelty holiday releases under their New Age line.
Jave is smoking the CAO Brazillia, a minerally, earthy Brazillian wrapped Nicaraguan cigar. Looking to throw a few in the Humi? Check out our review first!
Alright ‘mixologist in training’, when making something like the classic Bloody Mary, the most crucial step is THE BASE! Want a crappy end product, start with a crappy base. Like yours kind of sweet, a quality V8 might do the trick provided you have the proper ingredients to give it that needed pizzaz, however if you start with a great base, you’re already halfway there!
Check out our review of some widely available mixes below:
Do you simply use a generic mix base or have you tried experimenting with different additives? Check out some of our favorite in the video below. Andy shows you how to do an excellent Bloody Maria (with a little not-so-secret additive) and Jave does the standard, spicy BACON Bloody Mary. Quick, Easy, Delicious!
